With DSL internet access (digital subscriber line), an user is connected with a regular telephone line, generally with speeds from hundreds of Kbps to millions of Kbps, or Mbps. You can actually get top speeds up to 125 times faster than dial up access. Cable access is another broadband (high speed) service which is very comparable to DSL. Using the same coaxial cable service as your tv, typically an external cable modem is used for your computer. If you live in a remote area, satellite access may be your best bet, unless of course you are satisfied with a dial-up connection. Unlike dial-up access, not only is DSL much faster, but it also allows you to use the internet and make phone calls over the same line, without interruption from either, at the same time. Therefore, an additional phone line for the web is not necessary. Also note that your internet connection is constant and always on, as long as your computer is on, and your equipment is working properly. Can you get it? Well, chances are that if you are within approximately 3 miles of your local telephone company, or their local switch, you are eligible.
