Broadband DSL, Cable, Satellite or Wireless

Broadband DSL is really not a very good specification to a particular type of internet service. You see, broadband is a generalization for all types of high speed internet. DSL, on the other hand, is a specific type of broadband internet service. Cable (coaxial, from your cable TV provider) is a specific type, as is satellite, fiber optic cable (think AT&T U-Verse and Verizon FiOS), wireless, and Broadband over Powerline (BPL) all fall under the category broadband. So, instead of broadband DSL, the correct description is DSL broadband.

Broadband companies include names like AT&T, AT&T Wireless, Verizon, Verizon Wireless, Frontier, Comcast, Dish, Time Warner Cable, CenturyLink, Hughes Net, Charter, Xfinity, Cox, Cable One, Cincinnati bell, and Insight. There are others, many others. They all offer either DSL, cable, wireless, satellite, or fiber optic cable broadband plans for internet service.

 

Choices for Rural Broadband

Rural broadband can be any of the broadband services pointed out above, where available. That's the thing, isn't it? IN some places there just simply is not much in the way of options.

Chances are that if you live more than a handful of miles away from a sizable town, and don't have a lot of neighbors, then you might be limited to satellite internet and wireless via a provider who offers 3G service. Otherwise, you are stuck with dial up internet.

Living in the country surely has many advantages, for some of us who enjoy that lifestyle, but I'll tell you, limited high speed internet is not one of them.

All of the major players are teaming up to offer deals on combinations of either DSL, cable, 3G wireless, fiber optics,or satellite, bundled with interactive TV, voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), and either 3G or 4G wireless phone service.
